Every year, on February 4, a global event unites the world’s population to combat cancer. On social media platforms, two hashtags ( #WorldCancerDay & #WeCanICan ) are utilized to tell stories, list statistics, and encourage society to help reduce forms of cancer. At www.worldcancerday.org, you can get involved with the great cause, view how many posts are being generated with the two hashtags that are aforementioned in this blog post, and most importantly, you can read stories about cancer survivors and individuals who are currently battled the awful disease.
From the years 2008-2012, new cancer cases grew by 1.4 million and death tolls from cancer rose by 600,000. Currently, 8.2 million people die from cancer each year. From that 8.2 million, 4 million die between the ages of 30 and 69. By 2025, it is projected that new cancer cases will rise to 19.3 million and the death toll will increase to 11.5 million.
