Trending Thursday: Centrum MultiGummies Multi+Omega-3 Vitamins

It's the last day of American Heart Month, and we wanted to leave you with a great product for this week's Trending Thursday! This week we're taking a look at Centrum MultiGummies, a supplement that combines multiple vitamins with Omega-3 fatty acids, which have heart health potential that we discussed earlier this month.

Centrum MultiGummies Vitamins with Omega-3 Fish Oil

Centrum MultiGummies are formulated to support immune health, as well as heart, eye, and brain health. this multivitamin, which is gluten-free and contains no artificial flavors or sweeteners, features multiple supplements that we're going to detail.

Omega-3: The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, contained in fish oil, are precursors to certain molecules that reduce inflammation in the body. They also help treat hypertriglyceridemia, or high blood levels of triglycerides, fatty molecules that when found in excessive amounts can build up plaque in the arteries and cause cardiovascular disease. The effectiveness of fish oil on heart health is still under review, but the U.S. National Institutes of Health recommends it for hypertriglyceridemia, hypertension, and preventing secondary cardiovascular disease. Centrum's MultiGummies contain 47 mg of EPA and DHA in a serving.

Vitamin A: This is a critical vitamin that's required for cell formation. Most vital organs, including the heart, lungs, and kidneys, depend on proper amounts of Vitamin A. As an essential component of our retinas and corneas, it's important for our vision. Each serving contains 2,000 micrograms REA, over twice the recommended daily amount.

Vitamin C: L-ascorbic acid, or Vitamin C, is an important antioxidant that promotes heart health, is involved in strengthening the immune system, wound healing, and synthesizing proteins. Each serving contains 30 mg of Vitamin C.

Vitamin D: Essential for strong bones, Vitamin D allows the body to utilize the calcium it takes in. It's also indicated in heart health, possibly helping to prevent cardiovascular disease. You'll find it most readily in sunlights, but some foods and multivitamins are fortified with it. Each serving contains 1,000 international units (IU), above the recommended daily amount.

Vitamin E: A collective of different antioxidant compounds, Vitamin E protects the body from harmful free radicals. It's also involved in many metabolic processes and strengthens the immune system. Each serving contains 40 IU, nearly three times the recommended daily amount.

Vitamin B12: An important vitamin that can't be made in the body, Vitamin B12 is required for DNA synthesis, proper neurological function, and forming red blood cells. Deficiency can lead to anemia. Each serving contains 10 micrograms of B12, well above the 2.4 mcg recommended for adults.

Folic Acid: Critical to help pregnant women avoid birth defects, folic acid (Vitamin B9) is involved in synthesizing new cells. It can help prevent anemia and age-related macular degeneration. Each serving contains 160 micrograms (pregnant women are recommend to take in 400 mcg a day).

Zinc: This strengthens the immune system, and is an important cofactor in synthesizing proteins and DNA.
