Kaltostat Calcium Alginate Wound Dressing
Convatec Kaltostat Calcium Alginate Wound Dressing is a soft, sterile, non-woven dressing of calcium-sodium alginate fiber. The alginate fibers absorb wound exudate or normal saline solution and form a firm gel-fiber mat. The mat maintains a moist, warm environment at the wound-dressing interface and allows removal of the dressing with little or no damage to newly formed tissue.
Kaltostat Indications:
- Used to manage Pressure Ulcers
- Venous Stasis Ulcers
- Arterial Ulcers
- Diabetic Ulcers
- Donor Sites
- Abrasions and Lacerations
- Superficial Burns
- Dental Extraction Sites
- Post-operative Wound Debridement
- Post-operative Incisions and other external wounds inflicted by trauma
Contraindications:
Kaltostat Wound Dressings should not be used on third degree burns. Kaltostat also should not be used to control heavy bleeding or be used as a surgical sponge.
Application:
Debride the wound to remove necrotic tissue and eschar. Irrigate with dermal cleanser or sterile saline. Trim dressing to the size of the wound. Apply dry to heavy exudating wounds, moisten for light or non-exudating wounds with sterile saline. Apply a secondary dressing. For hemostasis on bleeding wounds, apply to the affected area, then remove and apply a new dressing when bleeding stops.
Removal:
For non- or lightly exudating wounds, moisten with sterile saline. For heavily exudating wounds, remove when strike through reaches the secondary dressing. Dressing may stay in place for up to 7 days. Cleanse the wound site prior to applying a new dressing.
