How to Order:
Droxidopa capsules are a medication used to treat low blood pressure (hypotension) in adults with certain conditions such as Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy, and pure autonomic failure. It contains the active ingredient droxidopa, which is a synthetic form of the naturally occurring chemical norepinephrine. Droxidopa works by increasing the body's levels of norepinephrine, which helps to raise blood pressure and improve symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, and fainting. Droxidopa capsules are taken by mouth and are available by prescription only.
Droxidopa is a prodrug, meaning it is converted into the active form of the medication once it is in the body. When taken orally, droxidopa is taken up by neurons in the central nervous system and is converted into norepinephrine, a neurotransmitter that plays a role in regulating blood pressure. The increase in norepinephrine can help improve blood flow and decrease blood pressure, which can be beneficial for conditions such as orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure when standing up) and neurogenic orthostatic hypotension (a type of low blood pressure caused by a neurological disorder). Droxidopa may also have other actions that contribute to its effectiveness, such as stimulating the release of other neurotransmitters that may help improve blood pressure regulation.
