Excela Sodium Bicarbonate 8.4% for Injection is a sterile, nonpyrogenic, aqueous solution of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) in water for injection. Each mL of Excela Sodium Bicarbonate 8.4% for Injection contains 8.4 mg of sodium bicarbonate and 0.5 mg of potassium chloride (KCl) in Water for Injection. Sodium bicarbonate, a white, crystalline powder, is an alkalinizing agent and buffer. It is soluble in water and slightly soluble in alcohol. The pH of a 1% solution is 10.5. The pKa of sodium bicarbonate is 8.3. The chemical name for sodium bicarbonate is sodium hydrogen carbonate. The structural formula is NaHCO3. The molecular weight is 84.01. Potassium chloride, a white, crystalline powder, is a potassium salt. It is soluble in water and slightly soluble in alcohol. The pH of a 1% solution is 7.0. The pKa of potassium chloride is 6.3. The chemical name for potassium chloride is potassium hydrogen chloride. The structural formula is KCl. The molecular weight is 74.55. Excela Sodium Bicarbonate 8.4% for Injection is indicated for the treatment of metabolic acidosis in patients with renal failure. Excela Sodium Bicarbonate 8.4% for Injection is also indicated for the treatment of metabolic acidosis in patients with cardiac arrest.
Excela Pharma Sciences 51754-5001-04 Sodium Bicarbonate Injection, USP is indicated in the treatment of metabolic acidosis which may occur in severe renal disease, uncontrolled diabetes, circulatory insufficiency due to shock or severe dehydration, extracorporeal circulation of blood, cardiac arrest and severe primary lactic acidosis.
Each mL contains sodium bicarbonate, 84 mg. 2 m0smol / mL (calc.). pH 7.8 (7.0 to 8.5). Single-dose container. Do not resterilize. For intravenous use.
Does NOT contain any bacteriostatic preservatives.
