Itraconazole Capsules 100 mg are primarily used as an antifungal medication. They are commonly prescribed for the treatment of a variety of fungal infections. These infections may include:

  • Aspergillosis: A type of infection often affecting the lungs, caused by Aspergillus fungi.
  • Blastomycosis: A fungal infection caused by Blastomyces dermatitidis, which can affect the lungs and other parts of the body.
  • Histoplasmosi:  An infection caused by inhaling spores of the fungus Histoplasma capsulatum, typically affecting the lungs.
  • Sporotrichosis: Caused by the fungus Sporothrix schenckii, this infection usually affects the skin but can spread to other parts of the body.
  • Onychomycosis: A fungal infection of the toenails or fingernails.
  • Candidiasis: Infections caused by Candida species that may affect the mouth, throat, esophagus, and other parts of the body.

Itraconazole works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes, thereby impairing the growth and replication of the fungi.

The medication should be taken as prescribed by your healthcare provider, and it's important to complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve earlier. Patients should also be aware of potential side effects and interactions with other medications. Always consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice.
