Getting the patient on the stretcher:
-
Note: Never move the scale while a patient is on the stretcher and never leave the patient unattended while on the scale
Start by placing the stretcher on the surface you wish to use to transfer the patient onto the stretcher (such as a bed or another stable flat surface). Then follow the steps below:
-
Place the patient on the stretcher so that their center mass is as close to the center of the stretcher as possible
-
Wheel the lifter scale over to the stretcher and position the boom hoops so they are about 5-10 inches (12-25 cm) from the patient’s body
-
Connect the loops on the stretcher to the hooks at the end of each set of loops, making sure the loops hang properly and equally from the hooks
-
Tighten the hydraulic control valve knob (which is located on the pump near the handle) by turning it clockwise
-
Widen the lifter base (using the base adjustment lever) to that the base is spread out as much as possible in order to optimize the stability of the scale while lifting the patient
-
Using the hydraulic pump handle, slowly lift the stretcher with the patient until the stretcher is hanging from the loops and isn’t contacting anything under or around it **Leave the wheels on the lifter base unlocked so the base can move and adjust itself for better balance, if needed
Weighing the patient:
-
Make sure there is nothing on the scale other than the patient
-
Turn the scale on using the ON/OFF button
-
The scale will automatically begin determining the weight of the patient. Once the scale has locked onto the patient’s weight (which could take several seconds depending on how much the patient is moving), the scale will display the weight information on its screen
-
For improved accuracy and reliability it is recommended that a second weight reading be taken while the patient is still on the scale; simply press the REWEIGH button
-
To get the weight reading information to remain on the screen, press the HOLD/RELEASE button. Pressing the HOLD/RELEASE button a second time will release the readings from the screen
-
Once the readings have been recorded, slowly turn the hydraulic pump control valve knob counterclockwise to lower the stretcher and patient back down to the stable surface that was originally used to lift them while carefully guiding the patient down safely.
-
Once the patient is resting on the surface or bed, release the hanging hoops from the stretcher hoops
-
Turn the scale off by pressing the ON/OFF button
