Dicyclomine Hydrochloride (HCl) is an anticholinergic and antispasmodic medication used primarily to relieve muscle spasms in the gastrointestinal tract. It is utilized for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other functional bowel disorders.

Dosage Form: Each capsule contains 10 mg of Dicyclomine HCl.

Mechanism of Action:

- Dicyclomine HCl works by inhibiting the action of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that induces muscle contraction in the gastrointestinal tract. By blocking acetylcholine, it helps to alleviate spasms and cramps by relaxing the smooth muscles of the intestines and stomach.

Indications:

- Dicyclomine HCl is indicated for the management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other conditions involving hypermotility and hyperactivity of the gastrointestinal tract.

Administration:

- Administer orally, typically 3 to 4 times daily before meals.
- Dosage may vary based on the severity of symptoms and the patient's response to the medication.

Precautions:

- Not recommended for use in patients with obstructive uropathy, severe ulcerative colitis, reflux esophagitis, unstable cardiovascular status, myasthenia gravis, or glaucoma.
- Use caution in elderly patients and in those with a history of autonomic neuropathy, liver or kidney impairment.

Side Effects:

- Common side effects may include dry mouth, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, constipation, and drowsiness.
- Serious side effects can involve confusion, hallucinations, difficulty urinating, and irregular heartbeat. Discontinue use and seek medical attention if these occur.

Drug Interactions:

- Dicyclomine HCl may interact with antacids, antidiarrheals, antihistamines, antidepressants, and other medications that affect gastrointestinal motility or CNS depressants.

Contraindications:

- Hypersensitivity to dicyclomine or any component of the formulation.
- Infants under 6 months of age due to the risk of severe side effects.

Storage:

- Store at room temperature between 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F).
- Protect from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
