Trulicity (dulaglutide) injection is a prescription medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It belongs to a class of drugs called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. It works by mimicking the effects of a natural hormone in the body that helps regulate blood sugar levels. Trulicity helps control blood sugar by increasing insulin production, slowing down the emptying of the stomach, and reducing sugar production by the liver. It is taken once a week through a subcutaneous injection (under the skin) using a pre-filled injector pen. Trulicity is not a substitute for insulin and should not be used to treat type 1 diabetes. It is typically used alongside a healthy diet and exercise program to help manage diabetes.

Trulicity is a medication in the form of a pre-filled pen that is used to treat type 2 diabetes. It contains the active ingredient dulaglutide, which is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. It helps to control blood sugar levels by stimulating the release of insulin and decreasing the production of glucose in the liver. Trulicity is available in various strengths, including 0.75 mg/0.5 mL, and is injected subcutaneously once a week. This medication is typically used in combination with a healthy diet and exercise to manage diabetes.

How to use Trulicity (Dulaglutide) Injection Pre-filled Pens 0.75 mg/0.5 mL:

1. Gather Supplies: Before using Trulicity injection, make sure you have all the necessary supplies including a Trulicity pre-filled pen, a alcohol prep pad, and a sharps container.

2. Choose Injection Site: Trulicity is injected into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Choose a different site each week to help reduce irritation at the injection site.

3. Prep the Pen: To prepare the Trulicity pen for injection, remove the seal on the cap and check the medication in the pen. The solution should be clear and colorless, with no particles. Do not use the pen if the solution is discolored or contains particles.

4. Prime the Pen: Hold the pen with the needle pointing up. Turn the dose selector to 0.5, then push the injector button all the way in until the 0.5 is no longer visible in the dose display. The pen is now primed and ready for injection.

5. Clean Injection Site: Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab and allow it to dry.

6. Inject the Medication: Pinch the skin to form a fold. Hold the pen with the needle pointing down at a 90-degree angle to the skin. Insert the needle into the skin and push the injector button all the way in until the yellow stripe appears in the window. Hold the injector button in for 5 seconds, then pull the pen out of the skin. The yellow stripe will move until it reaches your prescribed dose. Do not rub the injection site after the needle is removed.

7. Remove the Pen: Once the dose is delivered, remove the needle from your skin by pressing the plunger against a flat surface. The cover will automatically shield the needle. Do not replace the pen cap.

8. Dispose of the Pen Safely: Put the pen back into the carton for safe storage or immediately throw it away in a sharps disposal container.

9. Monitor Blood Sugar Levels: Keep track of your blood sugar levels as directed by your doctor and inform them of any changes.

Note: Trulicity is administered once a week, on the same day each week. If you forget to take your dose, take it as soon as you remember, and then continue to take one dose per week on your chosen day. Do not take two doses on the same day.

What is a GLP-1 Receptor Agonist?

GLP-1 receptor agonist medications are a class of drugs used to treat type 2 diabetes. They work by mimicking the effects of the naturally occurring hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), which is responsible for regulating insulin and blood sugar levels. These medications stimulate the GLP-1 receptors on the pancreas, leading to increased insulin production and decreased production of glucagon, a hormone that raises blood sugar levels. This results in better control of blood sugar levels and can also promote weight loss. Some commonly used GLP-1 receptor agonists include exenatide, liraglutide, and dulaglutide.
