Casting roll form splints, fiberglass white are medical devices used for immobilizing and protecting injured bones, joints, or muscles. They are made of a strong and lightweight fiberglass material that is shaped into a roll form. The splint is easily moldable when wet, allowing for a custom fit for each patient. Once dry, the splint hardens and provides stability and support to the affected area. This type of splint is often used for casting fractures or sprains in the arms, legs, hands, or feet. It can also be used to immobilize a joint or provide support after orthopedic surgeries. The white color makes it easy to monitor skin color and circulation under the splint.

How to Apply Casting Roll Form Splints:

1. Prep the splint material: Before beginning, ensure that the splint material is cut to the correct size. Use the serrated edge of scissors to trim the edges if necessary.

2. Apply padding: To prevent discomfort or pressure points, apply a layer of padding along the affected area. This can be accomplished by using cast padding, cotton gauze or other soft material.

3. Prepare water and roll-form splint: Fill a bowl with warm water and lay out the roll-form splint along the edge of the bowl, ensuring that the material is completely submerged. Allow the splint to soak for 2-3 seconds until the material becomes pliable.

4. Remove the splint from the water: With your fingers, gently squeeze out excess water from the splint.

5. Mold the splint: Place the wet splint onto the padded area. Using your fingers and gentle pressure, mold the splint to conform to the shape of the affected area. Smooth out any wrinkles or creases to ensure a proper fit.

6. Secure the splint: Once the desired shape has been achieved, secure the splint in place by folding the edges over and pressing them onto the skin. Make sure the edges are firmly sealed to prevent the splint from coming loose.

7. Allow the splint to cure: The drying time for casting roll form splints varies, but in general, it takes about 10-15 minutes for the splint to fully harden.

8. Check the fit: After the splint has cured, carefully assess the fit and comfort of the splint. If there are any uncomfortable pressure points or areas, use scissors to trim the edges or make small adjustments.

9. Educate the patient: It's important to educate the patient about the proper care and precautions while wearing the splint. They should avoid getting the splint wet and be gentle while handling it to prevent damage.

10. Remove the splint: When it is time to remove the splint, use scissors to carefully cut along the edges and remove it in one piece. Ensure that all adhesive residue is cleaned off the skin and assess the area for any signs of irritation or pressure points.
