Eligard (leuprolide acetate) is a prescription medication used to treat prostate cancer. This medication is a type of hormone therapy called a luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LHRH) agonist. It works by decreasing the amount of testosterone produced by the body.
Eligard is given as a shot under the skin (subcutaneous injection) every 4 weeks.
Elagard is often prescribed to men who have advanced prostate cancer, although it may also be prescribed to men with locally advanced prostate cancer, and men who have disease that has spread to other parts of the body.
