MMR Vaccine II is a live virus vaccine indicated for immunization against three highly contagious diseases—Measles, Mumps, and Rubella. Trusted and extensively studied, MMR II is widely recommended by healthcare authorities and public health agencies for routine childhood and select adult immunization. The 10-dose vial format optimizes cost-effectiveness for clinics and healthcare facilities.

What is MMR vaccine Used For?

MMR vaccine is administered to prevent:

  • Measles (rubeola): Prevents severe complications such as pneumonia, encephalitis, and subacute sclerosing panencephalitis.
  • Mumps: Reduces risk of orchitis, meningitis, and deafness.
  • Rubella: Prevents congenital rubella syndrome in pregnant women, which can cause birth defects.

CDC Guidelines & Recommendations

According to the CDC:

  • Children should receive two doses—first at 12-15 months, second at 4-6 years.
  • Individuals (adults and adolescents) without documented immunity should also be vaccinated.
  • Special populations (healthcare personnel, students at post-high school educational institutions, international travelers, non-pregnant women of childbearing age) are recommended for MMR vaccination if lacking immunity.

Dosage & Administration

  • Dosage Form: Lyophilized powder for reconstitution; each 0.5 mL dose for subcutaneous injection.
  • Dosing Schedule:
    • Children: 0.5 mL per dose, first at 12-15 months, second at 4-6 years.
    • Adults/Adolescents: 0.5 mL per dose, spacing as medically indicated.
  • Route: Subcutaneous injection, preferably in the outer aspect of the upper arm.

Mechanism of Action

MMR II contains live, attenuated strains of measles, mumps, and rubella viruses. Upon administration, vaccine viruses replicate locally and stimulate a robust immune response—including both humoral and cell-mediated immunity—providing long-lasting protection against all three diseases.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Triple Immunization: One vaccine, three disease protections.
  • WHO/CDC Endorsed: Meets national and global vaccination standards.
  • Lyophilized for Stability: Ensures potency and shelf-life.
  • Multi-dose Vial: Ideal for clinics, schools, public health campaigns.
  • Proven Safety Profile: Decades of global use.
  • Reduces Disease Transmission: Protects not only individuals but communities (herd immunity).

Directions for Use

  1. Reconstitute by adding the entire volume of diluent provided to the vial of lyophilized vaccine and shake gently.
  2. Withdraw a 0.5 mL dose using sterile technique.
  3. Inject subcutaneously, preferably into the outer aspect of the upper arm.
  4. Discard open multi-dose vial within 8 hours (following reconstitution), as per CDC/OSHA guidance.

Store refrigerated at 2–8°C (36–46°F). Do not freeze after reconstitution.

Warnings, Contraindications & Precautions

  • Do Not Administer to:
    • Pregnant women, individuals with immunodeficiency, or those allergic to neomycin or any component of the vaccine.
  • Postpone in cases of moderate/severe acute illness or untreated tuberculosis.
  • Temporary suppression of immune response may occur with recent administration of antibody-containing blood products.
  • Inform clinicians of recent vaccinations or planned immune-modulating therapy.
  • Transient fever or rash may follow vaccination.
