Trulicity (dulaglutide) injection is a prescription medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It belongs to a class of drugs called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. It works by mimicking the effects of a natural hormone in the body that helps regulate blood sugar levels. Trulicity helps control blood sugar by increasing insulin production, slowing down the emptying of the stomach, and reducing sugar production by the liver. It is taken once a week through a subcutaneous injection (under the skin) using a pre-filled injector pen. Trulicity is not a substitute for insulin and should not be used to treat type 1 diabetes. It is typically used alongside a healthy diet and exercise program to help manage diabetes.

Trulicity is a prescription medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It is in the class of drugs called GLP-1 receptor agonists and works by stimulating the release of insulin and decreasing the production of sugar by the liver. The pre-filled pens come in a pack of 4 and contain a solution of dulaglutide, the active ingredient, in a concentration of 1.5 mg per 0.5 mL. These pens are used to inject Trulicity subcutaneously (under the skin) once a week and are intended for single-use only. They are convenient and easy to use, allowing patients to self-administer their medication at home.

How to use Trulicity (Dulaglutide) Injection Pre-filled Pens 1.5 mg/0.5 mL:

1. Familiarize yourself with the pen: The Trulicity pre-filled pen contains the drug Dulaglutide and is used for treating type 2 diabetes. It comes in a pack of four pens and each pen contains 1.5 mg of the drug in 0.5 mL solution. Each pen is designed for single-use only.

2. Gather your supplies: You will need the Trulicity pre-filled pen, an alcohol prep pad, and a sharps container to dispose of used needles.

3. Check the expiration date and appearance of the pen: Before using the pen, make sure to check the expiration date on the carton and on the pen itself. Also, check the appearance of the pen to ensure that the solution is clear and does not contain any particles.

4. Choose an injection site: Trulicity is injected into the stomach, thigh or upper arm. Choose a site where there is a layer of fat under the skin and is at least one inch away from the last injection site.

5. Clean the injection site: Use an alcohol swab to clean the injection site. Let the area dry.

6. Prepare the pen: Remove the pen from the carton and check the label to make sure it is the correct dose. Do not shake or remove the pen cap until you are ready to inject.

7. Attach the needle: Remove the plastic tab from the pen cap. Hold the pen with the needle pointing up and gently screw the needle onto the pen by turning it clockwise. Do not overtighten as this may cause leakage.

8. Remove the pen cap: Remove the outer cap by pulling it straight off. Do not twist or bend it. Then remove the inner needle cap and discard both caps.

9. Prepare the dose: Turn the dose selector to the number 1 and then slowly push the yellow dose button all the way in. This will fill the white airlock with air. Then turn the dose selector to your prescribed dose. Make sure the yellow dose button is pushed all the way in.

10. Inject the dose: Hold the pen firmly and insert the needle into the cleaned injection site at a 90-degree angle. Push the dose button all the way in until the 0 is shown in the yellow window. Continue to hold the pen in place and count to 5 before removing the needle from the skin. This ensures that the full dose has been delivered.

11. Remove the needle and dispose of it: After the injection, carefully remove the needle by pulling it out in the same direction it was inserted. Be careful not to touch the needle tip. Place the used needle in a sharps container.

12. Apply pressure to the injection site: Use a clean cotton ball or gauze pad to apply pressure to the site for a few seconds. Do not rub the injection site.

13. Discard the used pen: Once you have used the pen, do not reuse it. Discard the used pen in a sharps container.

14. Record your injection: Keep track of your injections by writing down the date, time, and location of each injection.

15. Store the pens: Store the unused pens in the refrigerator. Do not freeze. If refrigeration is not possible, the pens can be kept at room temperature for up to 14 days. Always check the expiration date before using a pen.

If you have any questions or concerns about using the Trulicity pre-filled pens, consult with your doctor or a healthcare professional before beginning treatment.

What is a GLP-1 Receptor Agonist?

GLP-1 receptor agonist medications are a class of drugs used to treat type 2 diabetes. They work by mimicking the effects of the naturally occurring hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), which is responsible for regulating insulin and blood sugar levels. These medications stimulate the GLP-1 receptors on the pancreas, leading to increased insulin production and decreased production of glucagon, a hormone that raises blood sugar levels. This results in better control of blood sugar levels and can also promote weight loss. Some commonly used GLP-1 receptor agonists include exenatide, liraglutide, and dulaglutide.
